American Simone Biles is on the brink of history. Well, more history.
As she enters the world championships in Antwerp, Belgium, this coming week, Biles, 26, is just two medals shy of becoming the most-decorated gymnast, male or female. She currently has 32 medals at the world championships and Olympics, one shy of Vitaly Scherbo.
Antwerp would be a fitting city for Biles to set the mark, considering it's where she first stepped onto the world stage. At her first world championships in 2013, the then-16-year-old won four medals, including her first all-around gold.
Biles already on Mount Rushmore of gymnastics
Not surprisingly, Biles is already among the sport's greats. Her 25 medals from the world championships, and 19 world titles, are both records for any gymnast, male or female. Her five world all-around titles are the most by a female gymnast.
And her seven Olympic medals tie her with Shannon Miller for most by an American gymnast.

How to watch history unfold: World championship TV schedule
Biles and the U.S. women begin the world championships Oct. 1 with qualifying. The first medal opportunity comes Oct. 4, where the U.S. women will be heavy favorites to win what would be a record seventh consecutive world team title. The Americans have won every world title going back to 2011 — with Biles being a part of four of those teams.
The women's all-around final is Oct. 6 and Biles will be the heavy favorite to win. She hasn't lost an all-around competition since 2013, and her score the first night of the national championships was nearly 2 1/2 points better than what Brazil's Rebeca Andrade scored in winning her first world title last year.
Biles is also likely to have opportunities to add to her medal collection on vault, balance beam and floor exercise during event finals Oct. 7-8.
The finals will air on Peacock in the United States. Coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 3-6 for the team and all-around finals, and at 8 a.m. Eastern on Oct. 7-8 for the event finals. There also will be a highlights show at 2 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 8 on CNBC.
The qualifying sessions can be streamed at allgymnastics.tv. Highlights from qualifying, Sept. 30-Oct. 2, also will be posted to NBC Sports' digital channels.
Here's how Biles has collected her 32 medals in her 10-year career on the world stage:
